I wanted to share with you a reorganization within IT and what the this means to the campus.
The PIMS (Project & Information Management Services) which reported under Director John Bax has been reorganized into Project Management and Applications. Project Management now reports directly to the CIO which gives them authority and visibility across the organization. Applications now reports to the Director of Networks & Computing. This aligns the application developers with the infrastructure and database teams. This will support closer collaboration and more effective support of application projects in the future. John Bax has moved to a new role in IT, Program and Compliance Management. John will be responsible for maintaining IT program and service lifecycles, IT service catalog, memorandums of understanding and service level agreements, IT policies and procedures, legal compliance and audits for procurement, and disaster recovery and business continuity planning. John’s new title is Program and Compliance Officer and he will report directly to the CIO as part of a loosely defined group called IT Business Services.
What does this mean to you our customers? IT will be assigning relationship managers from the Project Management team to all campus departments. Relationship managers will advocate for departments with the IT department to help find solutions for each departments needs and concerns. Over the summer and the fall semester we will visit every department on campus to introduce the relationship managers, identify existing needs, create memorandums of understanding regarding support of current solutions and how the relationship managers will interact with departments to best advocate for them. These same individuals will perform project management duties for projects that are formed from this initial meeting and future interactions. The goal of this effort is to provide better awareness of departmental needs and concerns and identifying and prioritizing solutions to those needs and concerns.
